Wie unschwer zu erkennen, ist Radfahren ein großes Hobby von
mir. Dabei fahre ich aber keine Rennen wie Jan Ullrich. Meine Spezialität
sind lange und vor allem weite Touren. Je weiter desto besser! Da
bin ich dann schon mehrere Tage, in der Regel aber Wochen unterwegs
und ich kann eigentlich nur einmal im Jahr eine richtig große
Radtour machen.
Darum habe ich noch ein anderes Hobby: Ich spiele Tuba. Und das schon
seit 1979. Damals bin ich dem Jugendorcherster
"Schwäbische
Bläserbuben"
in Gersthofen
beigetreten und hatte dort gleich die Tuba spielen gelernt.
Als ich dem Jugendorchester entwachsen war, hatte ich einige Jahre bei
den
"Gersthofer Blasharmonikern"
gespielt - natürlich die Tuba. In dieser Zeit kaufte ich auch meine
eigene
Tuba. Diese spiele ich bis heute. Sie hat den Namen "Brigitte".

Mit Brigitte spiele ich derzeit bei einem Posaunenchor, und zwar beim
Posaunenchor
Trudering
in der Friedenskirche. Trudering ist ein Stadtteil von München.
Wenn ich nun einmal nicht mit dem Rad unterwegs bin oder irgendwo Tuba
spiele, dann spiele ich bei
Electronic Data
Systems.
Dort spiele ich aber nicht Musik, sondern den technischen Leiter
eines Support-
und Entwicklungsteams und helfe diesem Team dabei, anderen Leuten das Leben
leichter zu machen.
It is not difficult to figure out, that cycling is big hobby of mine. But
I’m not doing races like Lance Armstrong. My specialty is long tours, especially
long distance tours. The farther the better! Then I’m on tour for several
days, but usually it is several weeks. Well, such a really big tour is possible
only once a year.
Therefore I do have another hobby: I’m playing the tuba and I’m playing it
since 1979. In that year I joined the youth orchestra
"Schwäbische Bläserbuben" in Gersthofen,
a small town in Southern Germany. They are playing wind instruments. I have
chosen to learn playing the tuba straight away.
When I had grown out of the youth orchestra, I was playing with the band
"Gersthofer Blasharmoniker" for
several years – of course I was playing the tuba. During that period I also
bought my own tuba, which I’m still playing. Its name is “Brigitte”.

With Brigitte I’m currently playing with a brass band called
"Posaunenchor Trudering".
The band belongs to a church with the name "Friedenskirche", which means
as much as "Church of Peace". "Trudering" is the name of a district in Munich.
When eventually I’m neither cycling nor playing the tuba somewhere, then
I’m playing at
Electronic Data Systems.
There I’m not playing music but the technical leader of a support and development
team. And I’m helping that team in their work to ease other people’s life.
